John Etheridge 6-Feb-2016 - transientlife

Saturday night saw a packed-out Vortex, with many punters having to stand at the back, for a very entertaining night from guitarist John Etheridge and his Blues Spirits. Covering off a mix of original tunes and eclectic covers, including Sealed With A Kiss, which, as John remarked, you’d have to be of certain age to recognize. John’s technique is blinding, turning his hand to a range of styles, including a really funky last song that got at least one punter to his feet. When you’ve worked with the people he has over many years, you can’t help but name-drop – he did so very graciously – but, the stream-of-conscious anecdotes were amusing, especially the one about how he had to show a very famous guitarist (who shall remain nameless) a certain chord shape.
