It was great to see Louis Moholo-Moholo and the boys again, having seen them in November last at Ronnies. What a line-up this band has - just superb! I was chatting to a young woman at the end of the gig who was positively swooning over the inimitable Jason Yarde and those in the room could believe why. (On another matter, his performance with his trio Wah! was the best gig in the superb Jazz In The Round series to date - sadly, no photos of that astonishing night).
But this night, what a firecracker of a performance to a rammed Vortex. It's great to see this form of music in such rude health with such talent coming through in the younger generation, and the staying power of the middling and senior generations as well, like good wine, coming through with all its complexity and depth. Great night, great band and great stuff. Hope you enjoy these fleeting images.
