Crystal Palace park - transientlife

In its heyday, the great glass palace that stood on the hilltop previously known as Upper Norwood would attract 250,000 visitors on popular summer weekends. The palace loomed over the district that took its name for over 80 years until tragedy struck just before the war; after the fire, it could not have been salvaged given the Depression and the distant drums of war.

Thankfully, the park where the palace stood is still here; a haven for families, dog-walkers and myself. Given that today was first of the dark days (sunset at 16;45), the beautiful golden hour had a special poignancy.
